Lagos cautions car dealers, motorists on use of walkways
Lagos
State Government has declared zero tolerance on the conversion
of road setbacks and walkways to automobile markets and
parking lots, warning individuals and companies involved to
immediately desist or face the law.
General Manager of Lagos State Transport Management Authority,
LASTMA, Engr. Babatunde Edu, handed down the warning, weekend,
during an inspection of state roads.
He said the directive became important in the light of the
serious security and environmental concern which the display
of automobiles on the said places had created for residents.
The warning was also handed to companies on Ikorodu Road,
Funsho Williams Avenue, Surulere, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, among
others.
He frowned at “illegal conversion of road setbacks and
walkways to automobiles market and parking of automobiles, as
same was in contravention of the state road traffic laws.
Edu said: “This is an act of lawlessness and flagrant
disobedience to the state road traffic laws which will no
longer be condoned. It is an abuse of infrastructure on which
huge resources of the state were expended.”
